Simple Thoughts On Being A Dad

While this post will not qualify as being the longest creation on the subject of being a dad, I believe it holds weight in the category of being important.

In actuality it came about as a result of my taking a look at a variety of the movies I was checking out from what I could call “the back office” of Simple Truths (yes, I am an affiliate in case you are wondering).  At any rate, I played the brief “movie” you will see below my quote, and it certainly grabbed my attention.  For me, it could be termed a “gripping” presentation.

So…

I decided to post it here.  The quote I created several years ago.  I believe it was around 2003 in fact.  Yes, I still feel the same. It is an incredible privilege and responsibility being a father as you can see from several of my other posts.  In fact, if you are in business of any sort and happen to be a dad, I would encourage you to click here to read my longer post on the subject of building your home while building your business.

Being A Dad
© Lee Wise

Knowing…

The pleasure and the pain
The good and the not-so-good

The glad times and the sad times
And everything else in between

Only to find yourself saying the
same thing again and again over
the years:

“I love being a dad.”
“I really do… love being a dad.”

If You Are A Dad, I Would Say… Definitely Watch This Movie!

“Bringing It Home” As They Say…

Reflecting on the brief presentation… powerful wouldn’t you say?  And with that in mind, we could ask or comment…

  • How am I doing as a dad on the “time scale” of life with my family: should be, could be better or hardly ever?
  • Realizing that I need to spend a great deal of time on other things, am making sure that I am sharing quality moments — moments where I am being careful to encourage, uplift, carefully listen, use what I would call “the ministry of touch,” and otherwise let the family know of my deep love and concern for them?

Using the Power of Five to Enhance Your Life

The Power Of Five!

Using the Power of Five to Enhance Your Life

Either actually — or in your mind — I would like you to scan an area of your choice: preferably a work area such as a home office or something similar.

Not, yet however!

I want you to take a mental scan of your area choice from a very specific vantage point.

Scan With This Perspective

Survey your location with this perspective in mind as you do:

”As I scan my ____ (office, work space, etc.) what ‘productive something’ could I do in five minutes?”

  • Not the next five minutes.
  • Any five minutes.

It could be anything.

  • Calling someone,
  • Putting a file folder away,
  • writing yourself a reminder
  • Or taking a refreshing five minute read.

It just needs to…

  • Take under five minutes
  • And in your mind it should be “a productive something.”

That is, the action should carry with it a sense of emotional worth; some level of emotional significance.

Ready? Go!

Now Here’s What I Like About What You Discovered

Assuming you really did what I asked, you just experienced “the power of five” in your life.

You identified that which was…

  • Doable.
  • By design.
  • Held some level of meaning for you.
  • And could be accomplished in five minutes or less.

“Nice!”

I say “nice,” because of the simplicity and power of what that simple exercise could mean for you at times.

  • You choose the time.
  • You choose the focus.
  • And you “go for it” for only five minutes of your time during any given day.

As you are mulling this over in your mind, allow me to repeat what I mentioned seconds ago.  This is…

  • Doable.
  • By design.
  • Can hold some level of meaning for you.
  • And is accomplished in five minutes or less.

Brainstorming With An Open-Ended List

Expand your imagination about a variety of tasks or activities that could be accomplished in five minutes or less.  What I am terming “productive something” moments.

Travel down the ideas below.  Add your own.  Be creative.  And try it!

If you thought through various concepts or categories, what might come to mind? Categories such as the ones below (or others you discover during your short journey down the page).

Organization

  • What could you organize?
  • Could anything be put away?
  • Any clutter be cleaned up?
  • What about labeling a file folder and filing a piece of information?
  • Dusting maybe?

And your ideas would be…?

Inspiration, Motivation Or Refreshment

  • In five minutes or less, what could you bring into your world or call to your attention that might inspire you, motivate you or bring a moment’s refreshment into your busy day?
  • Do any books come to mind?
  • How about a song, picture or object of some sort?
  • Yoga, deep breathing, stretching, pushups or five minutes of other exercise?

And your ideas would be…?

Ideas

  • Could you have an “idea break”
  • Fun ideas, business ideas, family ideas, etc.  Think ideas by “category” as those I just mentioned for you.

And your ideas would be…?

Blessing Others

  • What could you do in five minutes or under that would encourage or bless someone?
  • Send a note, give them a call, send a text?

And your ideas would be…?

Stopping And Slowing Down

  • Could you meditate or reflect?
  • What about writing only one thought in a journal?
  • Could you stop long enough to enjoy something small?

And your ideas would be…?

Be Creative

  • Could you create a quote, or thought to use for training others?
  • What about reviewing a quote that meant something to you?
  • And what about looking for a cool place to take your husband or wife?
  • Could you find a picture of that blog post you will create later?
  • In five minutes or less could a meaningful personal affirmation be created… or at least begun?
  • Write down one idea for that next article.  It doesn’t have to be 50 ideas, right?  Not now.  This is just your “power of 5” time! Could you?

And your ideas would be…?

Bring Something To “Completion”

Would you consider bringing part of task to a close? Do it!  Wrap it up, shut it down, and bring that part to a close!

You Got It!

By this time — in the even that you stuck with me this far, lol — you totally get the idea!

  • Doable.
  • By design.
  • Holding meaning for you.
  • In five minutes or less!

Letting The Business Go In Order To Welcome The Family In: Speaking Of Purpose

Our Families. Our Purpose.

Letting The Business Go
In Order To Welcome The Family In:
Speaking Of Purpose

Sitting next to a young professional at lunch you hear: “I know I need to be with my family — I mean to truly be with them — but I when I go out with them I struggle with ‘being there’ with them.  You know what I mean?”

And should I hear your honest reply, it may go something like this: “Yes.  I hear you.  I really hear you.”

The Tension Exists

Most any professional likely knows, feels and understands the internal pressures associated with:

The felt need “be there” in your heart when with loved ones — or scheduling to be with those you love;

And..

The felt need to “be there” in your heart in order to stay on top of your game in the professional world.

Honestly, I don’t know that I’ve ever met one person who handles these two pressures in a way that I would say about them “He or she has this down cold. Nailed it.  No problems for them.”

Certainly I can’t say that I do…but I can say that over years I hope those closest to my heart would at least give me a passing grade in that area of life.

Not perfect.

And certainly less than some “out there” (wherever “out there” might be.)

But at least passing.

With the disclaimer in its proper place, please allow me to share with several suggestions as they concern this very important arena of life.

This will be the first in a brief series, and I choose to begin here:

Make It Your Purpose

Let me ask you a question:

Do you love your family enough to make it your purpose to give them a good, solid place in your heart when compared to being a success in your business?

I assumed your answered “Yes.”

If not, then, just stop reading this article and go on to something else.

Seriously.

I say this because in my way of thinking your internal purpose will determine who wins the most number of matches in any playoff season.

Somewhere,

In some way,

You must release the one,

In order to give your heart to the other.

Call it being “in the flow,” “in the moment,” “fully present,” or by any other name you may think of…

When the game begins you must work at being there in your heart for your loved ones because you’ve chosen to do so as a priority in your life.

Purpose defines so many of the actions in our lives.

Please allow me to repeat something I stated just seconds ago:

Somewhere,

In some way,

You must release the one,

In order to give your heart to the other.

“Insights”

While at my daughter’s band concert, I begin the internal “rush” to solve the next issue relative to my professional development.

The “professional heart” just came in and my “dad heart” took the exit door located inside of my thought life.

My point: the whole matter centers around the heart and my purpose as to where I choose it to be at the moment.

My heart.

My purpose.

Two very, very critical words.

Balance

No, I do not even pretend to be one of those who would say in my example above that your mind cannot drift while at a band concert.

But should it drift far enough away that my daughter’s heart caught that my heart was not:

Looking at,

Listening to,

And affirming her as a person…

Then I lost that game.

Lose too many of those games and, well, you know the result.

One Simple Question

I am not “boat load of guilt” person.  In other words, laying tons of guilt on someone to bring about a supposedly great result.  As a person I am not there.  As a life coach I am not there.

The tensions regarding the various battles of our hearts remain constant and no one pat answer solves anything.

Therefore, from that perspective — realizing the many shades of life we find ourselves in at any one moment of our lives — allow me to ask the obvious:

Have you made it a heart issue to make your loved ones one of the highest purposes of your life?

If so, super.

Your heart will then lead you to any other questions.

And if not — if you can’t answer that way and for some reason you did not stop at the beginning of this article — I at least would hope that you will be able to at some point in time in your life.

Every Day Time Management For The Work-At-Home Entrepreneur

Get Control Of Your Time!

Every Day Time Management
For The Work-At-Home Entrepreneur

Time for work-at-home entrepreneurs is their single most valuable asset. Nothing can replace time…valuable, precious time!

No matter how rich or poor you are, no matter how many things are on your ‘to-do’ list, you still just get the regulation twenty-four hours each day.

Sometimes I could use another twenty-four but that isn’t going to happen. I’ll bet that you could use more hours in your work day, as well.

The thing about those twenty-four allotted hours per day is that we can’t spend all of them working.

  • Family members need our time,
  • Relationships must be nurtured,
  • People must be cared for,
  • And of course we still must let out the dog!

The point: much needs to happen and that means that our time needs to be managed.

Think of what will read below as simple reminders of the obvious.  Nothing earth shattering.  Just…

“Obvious and necessary.”

And please do not allow the combination of those two words to slip by you.  Why? Because “obvious and necessary” can mean an important reminder to make an advancement we need to make!

Keep Up With That Email!

Several simple questions for you:

  • When do you tend to check your email?
  • When you do so, is it absolutely necessary for you to do so?
  • When you get there, do you stay focused relative to your purpose?

Do you have a way to: (1) set aside emails you need to answer soon, if not immediately? and (2) store emails that you don’t need to get back to immediately; and (3) file important ones for long term use (i.e. that may have urls to get back to, categories where you can find things at will, etc.”

Your answers to those questions will help you in the time management issues relative to your email.

Think…

  • Easy storage and retrieval.
  • Actions now.
  • Actions later.

And don’t forget the “get it out of the way emotional factor.”  If you can get something done in several minutes — for real several minutes (three maximum), then seriously think about doing it!

Work According To Schedule

Think of three words here:

  • Organize.
  • Discover.
  • Do.

Organize your day. Discover when you work best on certain things.  Do what you do best when it’s best for you to do it.

Easier said than done, true!  But it can pay off.

Take advantage of your personality, your motivations, what you enjoy… and what you hate.

“What you hate” you say?  That’s right, what you hate.  You know what I am going to say on that subject, correct?

Correct: tackle it.  Just do it.

One more time…

  • Organize.
  • Discover.
  • Do.

And of course all of this means working on a schedule. If you are a work at home person, you must…WORK at home.

Should You Outsource?

It may not be possible or practical at first… or it may be immensely practical for you.

Take time to investigate outsourcing. You can add hours to your day each and every day when you outsource the mundane business tasks to others.

You can outsource such tasks as bookkeeping and accounting, article/E-book writing and submission, ad writing, etc., etc.  And, with regards to the “article and ebook” category, you may even investigate the field of Private Label Rights from a trusted source.

If others can do these types of tasks better and more efficiently than you can and your time is better spent on growing your business, making those contacts and closing those deals!

Get on a business forum and ask where, when and how to best outsource.  Or contact a member of your upline that may be able to give you a resource in this area.

Evaluation Of Those “High Ticket” Items

Paying attention to “high value people” and “high value activities” can help your internal motivation tremendously.

Write down your most important people list.  Seriously, jot down the names.

Now…

Review this past week and see if they made it into the final game plan… or were they still on the bench waiting for the coach’s signal to enter the game?

If they’ve been on the bench too long, then something could be wrong.

And what about “high level activities”?  Are you really engaged in the best for the business and the best for the business of the quality of life you truly desire to lead?

Here’s a very, very simple process.  I know you know it.  It is one of those simple, obvious and quite possibly necessary strategies.

  • Make your list.
  • Rate what you make in terms of your engagement level (1 to 10 scale).
  • Decide on any changes that must be made.
  • Schedule them.
  • Do them.
  • Do the process again the following week.

Attraction Marketing Excellence Quote: Self Discipline

The Beauty And Necessity Of Self Discipline A major player relative to so many areas of our personal and business lives goes by the name of “Self Discipline.”  In my own life I keep returning to the need to continually grow and develop in my personal and professional life in this all important character quality. The video below on the importance of self discipline takes just about a minute of your time: literally. Take a moment, reflect and respond.

Taking It All In…

  • Reflecting on my own personal success journey, what part has self discipline played in my development (or struggles)?
  • Should you happen to be in a off line or online business setting, is there any way you could bring more value to the table either by sharing your insights on self discipline or improving in that area yourself?
  • And speaking sharing insights, if you happen to be a parent, how might you “show and tell” so-to-speak the value of self discipline to your children?

Attraction Marketing Excellence and Taking Right Actions

Attraction Marketing Excellence and Taking Right Actions

Any effort to live a “success on purpose” day — whether it be in attraction marketing or in our personal lives — can be dramatically enhanced by consistently choosing to plug our most cherished values into what we are doing.

Take about one minute to listen to the video below.

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

And Speaking Of Right Actions…

What high value actions could you plug into your week?

If you had to identify your most important values to make sure they “played in” to any aspect of your week, what would they be?

1.

2.

3.

Could you take just one small action in the next 27 minutes that would be value or mission centered and that could give you a definite encouragement boost for the next several hours?

All the best to you and those you love!

Quotes For Business and the Business of Life: On Being The Best

Being The Best For Me!

On Being The Best…

© Lee Wise  All rights reserved

I may not be the best in all things,
but I can strive to be the best in all things possible for me.
And we call that… personal victory!

As I see it, one of the most central aspects of succeeding in business and “the business of life,” is a proper perspective about being the best I can be…

Yet being that way without driving myself nuts in various attempts to be perfect.

After all, being the best I can be does not always mean being the best I possibly can when…

All is well,

Not well,

And everything in between.

What’s That Got To Do With Attraction Marketing Excellence?

Simple answer, but many times difficult to apply.

I see it as…

Allowing myself to function less than I could perform in various areas of my personal and business life without adding the unnecessary pressure “to do it all well all the time.”

Taking It With You…

Do you notice any areas where you need to cut it back so you can cut it well in all the various roles of your business or personal life?

If so, where might those changes be made?

That’s It!

All the best to you and those you love,

Lee

P.S.  Should you read this and say, “I’ve got that nailed pretty well.” Celebrate!!

Attraction Marketing Excellence And Heart To Heart Giving

Heart To Heart Giving

Attraction Marketing Excellence And Heart To Heart Giving

Ya know, sometimes you just feel you should do something, and for me that was making this post.  Not sure why at all, lol!  I went to wait till later and felt I should post the quote today… for no real, solid reason!

So if you happen to run by this and enjoy it, great!  While I’m at it I’ll add a few thoughts and come up with a title — but the main reason for posting is the quote itself.

Heart To Heart Giving

Heart to heart giving

is measured by love,

determined by conviction,

and sealed by commitment.

Giving And Attraction Marketing Excellence

As you know from reading my comments in other places, one of the reasons I appreciate the whole concept of “attraction marketing” as it’s so termed, is the idea of sharing things of value: one form of giving if you please.

Therefore, I guess some related questions we could ask ourselves as we forge ahead in the pursuit of becoming and reflecting excellence in our lives and businesses, would be:

  • Am I giving where I can?
  • Am I giving when I should?
  • Am I staying in touch with my heart so I can recognize when, how and where to give?
  • Am I content with giving “little” when I can’t give “much?”

That’s It!

All the very best to you and yours this day and always!

Lee

Renegade University

Affiliate Notations: I am affiliate of many, if not most, of the links and products that I suggest, recommend, or refer to on this site. For example, when I refer to the resources Renegade University and Renegade Professional, I am an affiliate of the organization that supplies those resources for the benefit of so many people. Also, if you see a banner on my site you can almost count on me be an affiliate of that service or product. By way of an example, the banner for the QuanSite that I use and very highly recommend: I am a very happy affiliate. Here's a "safe" way to look at it: just consider links affiliate related. Of course, many are not, but just view it that way for disclosure's sake. It’s really the best of both worlds: I enjoy being free enough to not only recommend a product or service that others may benefit from but also to have the potential of earning funds from the same resource. Cool.
