Simple Beauty In A Not So Simple World
Getting ready to create the blog post of the decade, you pause longer than normal and realize the reality of one of those “not so good” moments. Nothin’ going quite right, and nothin’ going extremely well either: including that best blog post in recent history!
Then again, during another one of life many “seasonal moments,” you begin not only to create that blog post but, journal, put the final touches on that marketing funnel, and begin planning a great time out with the family!
What Do These Two Examples Have In Common?
Answer: For the most part, nothing except you and how you are perceiving and responding to life during any one of those “seasonal moments” as I termed them.
The word perception or perspective is what I would like to camp on in this brief post. I mentioned that for the most the common denominator in my fictional examples was “you” and your perceptions of the moment.
True.
But within the scenes depicted above, I believe that something else — somewhere — most likely stood close by. And that “something” was a touch of simplistic beauty.
- A flower, a leaf changing color or even a sunrise?
- Maybe a person in the next room who loves and appreciates you?
- A gift from a child near the computer? A special gift with words of love on it?
- Background music designed to cheer, uplift or give creative ideas playing in the background?
Finding Simple Beauty
Reflect on these statements — including your own variations of how you might rephrase them or your ideas concerning beauty that may visit your heart:
On Discovering Beauty…
In seeking beauty to discover
I create beauty to be found.

On Contributing Beauty To The World…
Many aspects of life may be far from beautiful
but in choosing to seek, find and create beauty
we contribute ours to the world.

I Will Begin
I am going to do what I would like you to do.
I am creating this post at home. It is now 10:11 p.m. Nothing special going on and, thankfully, nothing tragic. But I am going to list at least ten “beautiful somethings” immediately. No, I have not prepared for this. Here goes…
- The love of my wife for me.
- The joy I felt in watching some sort of smaller bird at our bird feeder today.
- Knowing that my daughter and son-in-law along with their children are enjoying a time at the beach.
- A picture of my wife and I sitting on the table near me: a picture of us cutting our wedding cake!
- The realization of Christ being with me as I write this post.
- The beauty of being free here in America.
- The memory of two of my children stopping by to just share life with my wife and I recently: like yesterday and today!
- The fact that I did not need my third back surgery which I thought might have to take place within the past month.
- Pictures. The simple beauty of pictures. I thought of that because I just loaded the picture on this post.
- Colors. When I do take time to notice the variety of colors around me, I do love it. I love being able to see and notice colors.
You might be asking: “I wonder if he really did that?” Yes, I did! And I can tell you that, honestly, I enjoyed the process. A smile did find its way to my face, and I am glad I took the time to do so.
Your Turn
When you have the time — or right now — why not take this “see the beauty” suggestion and immediately record 10 “Beautiful Somethings.”? Its a matter of perspective. It is one way of “finding simple beauty in a not so simple world.”
- The first one for you would be?
- Next?
- How about the 3rd?
- Number four is?
- Five and you are half way there.
- Six. Can you believe you are that far?
- Seven. Just three more.
- Yes, you may have to think a bit: that’s fine. Take the time and enjoy.
- What would bring a smile for number nine?
- Ten! Yes! Victory!
